July 20 Batman: MisinterpretationWARNING: EXTREME SPOILER AHEAD Ok, I assume that many of you have seen batman: ends (aka. Dark knight), If you haven’t seen the film, I feel bad for you son. But seriously, none of you have thought of Harvey dent as Joker? The only reason that you are smarter than me is probably because you have seen the comic or you knew they are different actors playing different roles, but let me explain. Here’s why I came about this prejudice: Here's the dark knight trailer,
Notice the first scene when Harvey walks up the stairs to give speech, then comes joker giving his speech at a mobster’s meeting, this synchronization is the first sign that got me confused joker with Harvey. Furthermore, TWO-FACE'S FACE WAS NOT SHOWN IN THE TRAILER.
Then I saw this photo when I googled for “Harvey Dent”, showing a picture of Harvey dent being doodled over by a joker’s face. This initiated my thought, that this is the kind of film that has a twist. You know how those films always show the good guy with a lot of power is somehow the bad guy because they got overwhelmed by their popularity. I mean, even our contemporary politician, Bush for example, trying to persuade us that War in Iraq IS War on terror, but we all know that he has another clandestine purpose – to murder American youngsters in order to build his petroleum empire, not to mention that he graduated as a businessman (according to Wikipedia). So do you start seeing some logics in there? Retrospect the first ¼ part of the film, Harvey dent was way too nice that I became suspicious whether or not he is faking. Michael King was a super nice-guy back in high school, till a degree that I heard people gossip about his so-called ‘real purpose.’ And remember the scene when batman is at his lab with morgan freeman? A moniter is showing joker’s face with 3D grids hovering over it. The camera stops at that scene for a few seconds, and the next thing you see is batman squinting his eyes. Thus, I thought batman’s got some clue that Harvey IS joker. But later when Harvey was at some fancy high-rise resturant. When Bruce asks Harvey if he’s batman or not, he looks at Rachael and says something like"how can i sneak out in the middle of the night and not be notice by someone" while holding her hand. It blew my mind, I started to think there’s multiple jokers, and Harvey is the joker boss(or they are just trying to make Bruce jealous), since in modern fast-paced society people are so stressed out that I heard that some are having VTish thoughts(you might think it’s ridiculous, but I did hear some, especially people from UC Berkeley). So at this point, it’s still possible that there are muiltiple jokers. It is not until half way of the movie, I discovered some possibilities that joker is NOT Harvey dent, that is when batman was investigating joker, batman wacked that muthafukka in the face a few times. I mean even the most stanch believers of their own cult withdraw sometimes. Like in 1984, the main character’s face was about to be eaten by 10million rats, he succumbed to totalitarian. But I guess joker doesn’t care about his face, since it’s already messed up, and he could probably cover his wounds with more make ups.
And I mean come on, joker’s got his face covered up, how could possibly you tell. Even if he doesn’t put make-ups, how could you distinguish malcolm in the middle from Harvey and joker. *oh, joker’s got a scar (big smile) on his face~ blah blah blah* Everytime he tells a different story about his scar; how could you tell the scar is true or not? Unless you saw batman in Blue-Ray. Too bad Joker suicide right after filming dark knight, which I thought he suicide because he had to constantly changing roles; form Harvey to joker, that is a drastic change, even the best actor will go nuts. Now feel less empathy for joker’s death (NOW HIRING:JOKER).
In conclusion, batman is a kick-ass film. I am not even sure if the next batman is going to be as cool as this one. but seriously, WHY SO SERIOUS??? Comments (1)
